surrealism
Surrealism is a style of art and literature made during the 20th century, it tries to express the subconsious mind. Surrealism is about being creative and free with the images you capture, it is also in someway dreamlike and makes us use our imagination.
examples of surrealism photography
I chose these images as my favourites, because I like how creative, unique and meaningful they are. The first image to me is implying that once you climb that ladder your head will be stuck in the clouds. The second image is that the person is climbing up the tree, however she is not as it is a puddle reflection. Finally the third image I found is telling the story of the world and society killing the lady from all of the poverty, hate and discrimation in the world.
Taylor marie mccormick
Taylor Marie Mccormick is a young teenage photographer, she generally has more than one meaning to her images that she captures, therefore this makes her work unique and different to other surrealism photographers. She is very creative and imaginative with her ideas, her work is in some way surreal and eye catching because she uses different colours and many different editing techniques. Taylor was born suburbs of Cincinnati in 1993, However she has spent around 19 years calling Atlanta home. Her work has been shown in New York City, The Hamptons, Hong Kong, Savannah, and Atlanta.
I like this image as she has cleverly used the term of 'rule of thirds', therefore this has lead into an interesting composition. She has used her contrast well as she has used dark colours in the background however her image is bright due to the fact of all the lights from the city. This image reminds me of somebody tearing into the world and looking over the city. This image is alomost fantasy like and very creative, colourful and eye catching.

I like this image as it reminds me of fairytales and adventurous movies, such as Alice in the wonderland, however I dislike this image as it is dark, dull and boring due to the fact that that it has no bright colours. The models leg looks as if it is in an awkward position and the background isn't making the image stand out and everything is blending and nothing is standing out. To imporve this image I think that Taylor could have made the house alot more brighter. She could have emphasised the models face more as I find its hidden.

tommy ingberg
Tommy Ingberg is a photographer and visual artist, born 1980 in Sweden. He works with photography and digital image editing, creating minimalistic and self-reflecting surreal photo montages dealing with human nature, feelings and thoughts.
I like this image as it suggests that the brain is like a tree and it has many roots. Also I like the way he has faded the background slightly and made the tree the darkest, therefore it stands out the most and I think that it is the main focus point.

I dislike this image as it is too plain and too simple. In my opinion I think that it has no message or concept behind it. To some people it may have a meaning of being trapped. |
ERIK JOHANSSON
Erik Johansson is a Swedish-born artist based in Prague who creates surreal images by recombining photographs and other materials. He is born in April, 1985 in Gotene, sweden. Erik Johansson does not capture moments he captures ideas, with the help of photoshop and his camera his goal is to make it look as realistic as posible.
I like this picture because it is very detailed, also I think that the use of colours and contrast has been used well. He has used many different editing skills of the bottle floating. He has also tried to give us the message that there is so much that it is causing things to float, also the house is trapped inside the bottle so it can be protected.

I dislike this image as the colours that are used are not bold, bright and eyecatching. This has a negative impact on the image as it makes the picture look dull. When I look at this image it makes me feel bored and uninterested.

BEN HEINE
Ben Heine is a male visual artist and music producer. He became famous in 2010 with the invention of a new art form titled "Pencil Vs Camera". He was born on the 12th of June 1983. He has a degree in jounalism, he taught himself to draw and sketch. His work is all of many museums.
I really like this image because it shows how the children are growing up to learn, and how all of them have a mind of their own which contains their own personal knowledge. The background doesn't really have an impacts on the image because it is blurry and just greenery. The fact that Ben Heine has not colored in his sketch is effective because it shows a different use of color and contrast. He has made his models wear the same color clothing to make it as if they are in uniform. To improve his image I think that he could had used a better background to allow the message to be more effective and more desirable.

I like this image as it is odd and bizarre because it is unusual to have two animals pulling silly funny faces or even taking pictures. This image is really satisfying because it is attractive entertaining and playful. The use of color could has been used better because the background is dull and boring and does not stand out, also Ben Heine could had colored the animals glasses and tongue to make it look more eye catching and bold.

shoot 1 plan
For my first surrealism shoot I am going to be using a male model to represent him looking back at a dark misty background, I am going to use photoshop for this as I can apply different filters.
shoot 1
best
This is my best image overall because I have captured my image looking back which has given my image the effect I wanted to allow me to edit in a background. My whole image is in focus, and my exposure is correct due to the fact that my image is not to dark or to bright, my whitebalance was set on automatic because I was indoors.
worst
This is my worst image because it is over exposed as my models face is too bright, also my models posture is poor and he is not looking in the right direction. My model is not showing the correct emotion however I did not need my models face to be shown therefore he is looking the wrong way.
editing
First open photoshop. Next select your paper size. Make sure this is the right size. After that click file and open your image. Once you have selected your image make sure it is the correct size. Crop your image if needed. Once your image has been cropped begin to edit. Search your image on google. Open up a new paper. Once you have opened up a new paper. Open your other image. Drag you background image onto your main image. Once you have done that re size your image of needed to. Finally your image is complete! |

shoot 2 plan
For my second shoot I am going to use a student from my class to be my model for my re make of Ben Heines image. To remake one of his images I am going to draw a skeleton face and hold ther image infront of my models face. I am have chosen to use perspective photography. I am going to edit the image after and put a black and white filter on my image to make it look more realistic. I am going to set my camera on a depth of field of the highest one because I want my focus point to be on the face and I want the whole image to be in focus. I am going to set my exposure right becuase I dont want my image to be dark or too bright.
editing
mock
For my third shoot I am going to have some one sat on a table gazing up and day dreaming, I am then going to edit my image and insert fairies, flowers and a galaxy background. My camera is going to have a high F stop therefore my whole image will be in focus, also I am going to have the shutterspeed set on a fast one because i want to capture my models emotion. I want my exposure level to be correct as I want my image to be correctly exposed.
editing
shoot 3
plan
For third shoot I am going to take a picture of my model gazing into a book and I am going to butterflies coming out of the book. I am going to have my camera on manual therefore I am going to have my on a fast shutter speed because I need my image to be clear and not blurry, I am going to have my whitebalance set on outdoors because I am going to set my shoot near a window.
editing
Add the image onto your locked background layer , and change the colour in hue saturation.

evaluation
Overall this project has been filled with many strengths but it has also been full of weaknesses. I have worked on my weaknesses and now they are my strengths, I found this unit enjoyable because it allowed me to use many of my different skills. I have editied many of my images and this has helped me develop my skills on photoshop. Out of the photographers that I chose my favourite one was Taylor Marie Mccormick because her photography is unique and different compared to others, also I was inspired to do a shoot containing butterflies because I seen how much of aan effect it causes. To improve my grade I could have completed a more sophisticated mock and kept the sophitication consistant.
